Cake circles, and why grease-proof matters

A cake circle carries the weight of the cake so it can be lifted, boxed and transported without the base collapsing. The corrugated construction gives rigidity without much thickness.

Grease-proof coating is the part people skip and regret: without it, butter and oil wick into the board, the circle softens, and the cake arrives sitting on a stained, sagging base.

SIZING IT

Match the circle to the cake, then the box to the circle. A circle that overhangs makes the box hard to close cleanly.
