Paper as void fill and wrap

Paper does two jobs: wrapping items so surfaces do not rub, and filling the space around them so nothing moves. It is recyclable kerbside, which increasingly matters to customers, and it costs less per cubic foot of fill than most alternatives.

Basis weight is the spec to watch. Lighter paper (#30) crumples easily and fills volume fast. Heavier paper (#50 and up) wraps and protects better but fills more slowly. Most benches keep one of each.

HOW TO USE IT

Crumple, do not fold. Crumpled paper traps air and springs back; folded paper compresses flat and stops protecting on the first drop.

Frequently asked

Paper or bubble?

Paper for void fill and surface separation, bubble for impact. Paper is the cheaper and more recyclable of the two.

Which basis weight?

#30 for fast void filling, #50 and up for wrapping and protection. Many operations stock both.

Is it recyclable?

Yes, kraft paper goes in standard kerbside recycling, which is part of why so many shippers are moving back to it.
