Choosing stretch film

Gauge follows load weight and sharpness. Light, uniform loads under about 1,500 lbs wrap fine at 47–60 gauge. Standard mixed pallets up to roughly 2,200 lbs sit in the 63–80 gauge range. Heavy or sharp-edged loads want 90–120 gauge.

Hand or machine is a volume question. Below about 15 pallets a day, hand film is fine — and pre-stretch film is usually cheaper per pallet than conventional film that crews under-stretch anyway. Above that, a wrapper stretches film far further than any person can, and pays for itself.

HOW TO WRAP A PALLET

Lock two full wraps at the base, spiral up with 50% overlap, finish with two at the top. Wrapping more than about 15 pallets a day? ask us whether machine film would cut your cost per pallet — sometimes the honest answer is yes.

Frequently asked

What gauge do I need?

Light loads 47–60, standard mixed pallets 63–80, heavy or sharp loads 90–120. Tell us your pallet weight and we will confirm.

Is pre-stretch film really cheaper?

Usually, for hand wrapping. It is already elongated, so you get more pallets per roll than conventional film that a fast crew under-stretches.

Why is black or coloured film used?

To conceal contents in mixed storage, or to colour-code by lane, customer or dock.
