Getting the tape right

Tape failures are almost never a bad roll. They are the wrong adhesive for the surface, the temperature, or the weight of the box. Recycled-content corrugated in particular sheds fibres that defeat thin adhesives.

Thickness follows weight: 1.8–2.0 mil for everyday boxes under about 40 lbs, 2.5–3.0 mil for heavy or overstuffed cartons. Going heavier than you need is one of the more common ways to overspend on consumables.

HOW TO SEAL A BOX

One strip along the bottom seam and two across it. That is the H-pattern, and it stops most bottom failures. Do the same on top for anything heavy.
