How to choose the right corrugated box

Three questions determine the right box: how heavy are the contents, how fragile are they, and how does the box travel?

Weight sets the strength. Up to ~65 lbs, standard 32 ECT single wall does the job. 65–95 lbs, step up to 44 ECT. Above that — or for fragile/high-value contents — use 48 ECT double wall. Paying for double wall to ship t-shirts wastes money; shipping machine parts in lightweight boxes wastes more.

Fit sets the size. The right box leaves about 2" around the product for cushioning — more space than that means more void fill, more movement, and higher dimensional-weight charges from carriers. If you ship one product constantly, matching the box to it precisely is one of the easiest cost cuts in packaging.

Transit sets the style. Parcel shipping (UPS/FedEx/USPS) favors burst-rated boxes that survive rough solo handling. Palletized freight favors ECT-rated boxes that stack. Retail-bound? Consider how the box looks opened.
